Behaviorally Challenged Students, Advocating for Appropriate Supports

Students with behavioral health needs are often removed from the classroom missing out on important instructional time. Many students are suspended, expelled, Baker Acted, or arrested for manifestations of their disability, and their behavior is often misunderstood. Learn how to advocate for appropriate supports and services, and when to request a Functional Behavior Assessment and Positive Behavior Intervention Plan. Also covered will be restraint and seclusion and how to keep your child safe.

Professor Batya Elbaum of The University of Miami School of Education deliverd this power point presentation in conjunction with her Saturday Keynote Address at The 8th Annual Family Cafe Conference. It offers an excellent picture of the history, current practices and future trends in the realm of parent involvement and the way government programs will measure it in coming years.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Vocational Rehabilitation Services

Come and learn about the many services VR has to offer eligible youth and/or adults who are interested in developing a meaningful career. This session will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about the many services and supports available through VR. Services are individually designed and may include vocational evaluation and planning, job placement, assistive technology, training and education, as well as other necessary services all designed to promote successful employment outcomes.
