The FAAST NW RDC
Assistive Technology Regional Demonstration Center
Are you or someone you know in need of an Assistive Technology device? Perhaps you need training on how to use a device you already own? Maybe you have not purchased a device you need due to a lack of financing?
If any of these apply to you, then FAAST can help! The Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST) has a mission to improve the quality of life for all Floridians with disabilities through advocacy and awareness activities that increase access to and acquisition of assistive services and technology. FAAST brings that mission to life through the Regional Demonstration Centers (RDC’s) it operates across the state of Florida.
Regional Demonstration Centers provide a variety of services, including:
- AT Assessments
- AT Evaluations
- Device Demonstrations
- Device Loans
- Refurbishment and Repair of Equipment
- Info & Assistance
The Family Café is proud to host one of those centers, the FAAST Northwest Regional Demonstration Center, at our office in Tallahassee. Our RDC has been in operation for five years, and it’s led by FAAST Northwest RDC Coordinator, Jesse Hansen. Jesse has a wealth of technical knowledge, having worked for years in the fields of Information Technology and Assistive Technology, with expertise in device repair, refurbishment, diagnostics, and maintenance. In his work at the RDC, he enjoys the opportunity to assess the needs of individual users, and to assist all in the use of Assistive Technology devices.
Our focus at the Northwest RDC is to provide greater access, knowledge and training as it relates to Assistive Technology for those residing in the northwest region of Florida. We serve individuals in Gulf, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gadsden, Liberty, Franklin, Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, and Taylor counties. The Northwest RDC works to address the unique challenges that families in rural communities areas of northwest Florida face.
Of course, during these unprecedented times of social distancing, everyone has had to look for new ways to interact with each other. That applies to the FAAST RDC’s as well. That’s why we have made the services available through our FAAST Regional Demonstration Center available both in person, and through virtual means.
If you are not located in the Northwest region of Florida, don’t worry, you can easily find the RDC that serves your part of the state. Contact FAAST headquarters at this link https://faast.org/contact/ or through their email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 1-844-353-2278, and they can direct you to the appropriate center. You can also find your local center with their interactive map here https://faast.org/locate-center/. Please make sure to contact your center before hand to schedule an appointment, as some are only able to meet virtually at present.
The Family Café has held a long-standing friendship and association with FAAST and is glad we can work together to connect individuals with disabilities with assistive technology. If you or anyone you know needs any of the services that we offer as the Northwest Regional Demonstration Center, please contact RDC Coordinator Jesse Hansen so we can provide those services.
